International LLM 鈥� Professional Licensure/Certification Disclosure
This degree is not designed to satisfy all the legal education requirements to qualify foreign-trained lawyers to sit for the bar exam in any state in the US and meeting the degree requirements alone will not satisfy all of the bar eligibility requirements in any state.
Most states require a J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school to be eligible for licensure. Select state jurisdictions provide a path for students who have completed their legal education in a foreign country to take the bar exam and apply for professional licensure. An LLM may help satisfy these requirements in certain state jurisdictions. Foreign-trained LLM students who anticipate taking a US bar exam should review the applicable rules and regulations specific to the jurisdiction in which they seek licensure.
草榴社区 has determined that the LLM in US Law for Foreign-Trained Attorneys can be used to qualify eligible students to take the bar exam in New York and California, provided the student seeking licensure in those states pursues a course of study that satisfies the specific course requirements set forth in the rules and regulations of those jurisdictions. Fulfilling those state requirements might require students to complete more than the minimum 24 credits required for the award of the LLM degree. The LLM in US Law for Foreign-Trained Attorneys may assist eligible students seeking licensure in Pennsylvania, however, there are additional specific practice requirements the student must satisfy. Students should review the specific rules and regulations in the jurisdiction in which they are interested in seeking licensure for all applicable information.
