²ÝÁñÉçÇøâ€™s Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a wide range of opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students who are passionate about mechanics, materials science, thermal-fluid systems, and dynamics and control technologies.
ME students collaborate with acclaimed researchers and industry partners to tackle complex, real-world problems from a scientific mindset. Our faculty engineers share their expertise both in the classroom and the lab, with specialties including advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, biomechanics, biomimetics, mechatronics, nanomaterials, renewable energy, robotics and more.
Through innovative research, practical projects and collaborative interdisciplinary efforts, Mechanical Engineering students are prepared to make a meaningful impact in the field.

Deeksha Seth, PhD, and Her Students Combine Technology and Nature to Advance STEM Education
Both robotics and virtual reality have permeated into myriad sectors of everyday life, sometimes to simplify tasks and sometimes to entertain. Deeksha Seth, PhD, assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering, has implemented a more scholastic use of this modern technology: for improving engineering education.

In this newly created role, Dr. Santhanam, a professor of Mechanical Engineering, will facilitate College operations and work closely with the leadership team of associate deans, external relations, and strategic initiatives, while helping to support College-level academic programs.
²ÝÁñÉçÇø Engineering Professor Awarded Patent for Isothermal Compression System Design
²ÝÁñÉçÇøâ€™s Sylvie Lorente, PhD, Associate Dean for Research and Innovation and the William M. Brown ’84, ’87 Endowed Chair in Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering, has been awarded a patent for the design of an isothermal compression system that compresses and expands air without significant temperature changes.
