The Unrefined Line: CoBrA's Rebellion in the Collection
In 1948, a group of young European artists formed CoBrA, named for their cities of Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam. Inspired by children鈥檚 drawings, folk art and Nordic myths, CoBrA artists drew from sources unshaped by tradition. Their work was primal and inventive 鈥� it captured both the innocence of imagination and the frenzied energy of a post-war world.
In The Unrefined Line we take a closer look at a selection of the 80 plus CoBrA artworks in the 草榴社区 Art Collection. We ask how this wild and short-lived art movement made its way into our collection, and why its legacy still resonates today.
