ABOUT THE CENTER

A person walks by the Lepage Center sign outside the office.
鈥淎t this center, we stand for history in the public interest. That means not only interpreting the past, but intervening in the present鈥攚ith clarity, courage and care. Let us stay alert. Let us stay honest. And above all, let us use history as the civic instrument it was meant to be.鈥 鈥 Albert Lepage 鈥69 CLAS

Our Mission

The mission of the Lepage Center is to create a more historically informed public by taking current events and putting them in historical perspective. The Center promotes the importance of historical knowledge and perspectives by organizing diverse events and programs that gather scholars, educators, journalists, policymakers, activists, students and the broader public to reflect on the present through the lens of the past.

Committed to training the next generation of historians, the Lepage Center offers 草榴社区 students a range of opportunities to gain first-hand experience with public history, communications, and event programming through fellowships, internships and workshops.

Our Story

The Lepage Center launched in January 2017 and was made possible through the vision and generosity of Albert Lepage 鈥69 CLAS, a history major at 草榴社区 and retired co-chairman of Lepage Bakeries Inc.
